To celebrate Messi breaking Paulino Alcantara's all time goal-scoring record of 369 goals for Barcelona, adidas has created 370 pairs of special edition boots, each one uniquely labelled #001 - #370 to represent each of Leo's goals along the way. (This pair paying tribute to his 365th Barca goal scored against Man City at the Etihad in the Champions League). Alcantara's record had stood since 1927 but was overtaken by the Argentinian after he scored a hat trick against Osasuna on Sunday.
The design for this landmark boot is inspired by his goal scoring stats, separating the percentage of goals he's scored with his left foot, right foot and head. The red on the left boot represents 80% of his Barca goals and the blue on the right signals 15% of his goals scored with his weaker foot. The other 5% off his head. The colours are obviously inspired by the famous red and blue of the Barcelona kit and along with each individual number the boots feature Messi's custom personalisation. His squad number 10, the name and date of birth of his son 'Thiago' and a subtle Argentinian flag on the heel, above the trademark Messi logo. The iridescent design on the soleplate of the boot compliments the upper to pull off a truly unique product and one that belongs firmly on the collectors' shelves rather than the pitch. For the lucky 370 people who snap up a pair the boots come with a small collector's edition booklet explaining the story further and picking out some of Messi's most famous goals along the way.
The new adidas adizero F50 Messi 370 is available in limited numbers from selected online retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer.
